Blood clots are generally caused by long periods of inactivity. When blood clots do happen they cut off blood supply to the brain resulting in a stroke. Clots can also induce heart attacks. A clot formed in any part of the body can travel through the veins to the lungs. Some of the important drugs used to prevent clots are heparin and warfarin.
